I am just THAT dedicated!

So I got the reindeer to take a quick trip to where my Kid was vacationing for Christmas and managed to set myself up below her very own Christmas tree that her Grandmother had set up for her. I even took the time to write her a little note reminding her that I was heading to the North Pole to relax and take my own vacation until next Christmas. I hope she understands.

You should have seen her face when she saw me. I can only imagine how hard that little brain was working trying to figure out how I got here.

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas.

See you all next year.

Vanity run amuck

So I only have one more day here and I just thought I would make my mark before I left.

Can you blame an Elf?

A little maintenance never hurts.

I have pretty much been all over this house checking things out this month and I figured that since my time here is dwindling, I might as well make myself useful. My Kid was using this the other day and I heard a little sputter in the reverse mode so I thought I would check it out. I thought I would be done before she woke up but these damn American motors are tricky so I ended up working on it all night and got stuck this way when she woke up early this morning.

I'd give anything for a heating pad and a cocktail right about now!

Elf on a Shelf. Ha ha ha ha.

My Kid's mom is packing for the Christmas trip and I thought since I was so comfortable last night that today I would sit on this tiny shelf, have a few snacks and watch her pack. First of all, I know I come from the story Elf on a Shelf but clearly the person who wrote it never sat on a shelf. Second of all, these snacks are not very good. Strawberry smoothy shoved in a squeezable container??? Can you say "messy!!" and don't get me started on the cardboard taste of these lovely biscuits for my Kid's baby brother. Blech.

At least I got to scope out where I am going to be for the long journey to the Grandparent's house. These guys are kind of over packers so I am thinking my space is going to be tight. Oh boy!

Alpha Omega

After weeks of sitting in awkward, uncomfortable and sometimes absurd settings, I decided to enjoy a little comfort instead.

Not sure I should have buckled myself in so tight, but it's better than being stuck in a jar all day right?

Tea Party

It is possible that I got into the sweet stuff.

Again...

Maybe...

Making my mark

So my Kid has this tree that her mom made her so she could decorate and re-decorate it whenever she wants. Her mom put four ornaments on the tree that represent the four family members so I thought I would take some time to dig through the scraps and add myself to the family. I mean, why not? I spend all day with them. I think I've earned a spot on their tree.

Getting there wasn't easy, but I am an elf of many talents.

I might have been a bit too excited

Damn that sweet tooth of mine. I blame Santa. It seems that I cannot control myself and whenever I get near some sweets, I go a little overboard. Geesh. At least my kid wasn't tempted to play with me at all today, but when I finally got out to head to Santa, I realized that I was a bit stinky from being cooped up all day. I think I'll take a bath in some maple syrup when I get back to the North Pole.

Missing my lady

So I've been here for almost 3 weeks now and I kinda miss my lady friend. She is also on assignment with a Kid far far away from here. We are in such different time zones that when I tried to Skype her last night, it was the middle of the day where she is and I almost got her in trouble. So for now, I am sticking to just staring at a picture and wishing she were here.

Brrrrrrrrrr

You would think that when my Kid's parents thought up this spot for me that they would have at least given me a friggin scarf or a hat to keep me warm, but maybe they figured since I am from the North Pole, it would be no big deal.

At least I got to greet my Kid first thing in the morning and give her some of her favorite breakfast.

Paying Homage

It's no secret that The Captain is pretty important in this house, so last night I decided to hang out with him and enjoy some good conversation. Not to mention that in this position, I kept nice and toasty warm all day.

Helping hands.

I've been watching my Kid's parents these past couple of weeks and they both seem to have their hands full during the day, so I thought I would lend a helping hand with a project I know they really wish had been finished a week ago.

Taking a break.

I decided it might be safer for me to spend the day reading up high (and away from the cats who apparently hold a grudge... who knew!) on a shelf with some of my Kid's favorite friends.

They appreciated my enthusiasm as I read them story after story.

Bright idea...

It seems that Mr. Dinosaur was a lot more accommodating when I put on the saddle then the cats were.

I happily spent my day hanging around watching from above.

Rallying the troops

Last night I decided to introduce myself to some of my Kid's toys.

They were extremely friendly.

I don't think I've ever saddled a dinosaur before, but he was very accommodating.

Sweet Tooth

If any of you have seen the movie "Elf" then you understand an Elf's love of the sweet stuff.

I may have gone a little overboard.

Off-roading.

After a night of hard labor, I decided that last night I would take a break and do a little off-roading around the house when I returned from the North Pole. The dog sleeps in her crate at night so I was able to cruise around most of the house without being bothered. One of the cats thought I would be a great toy to chase though and that was when I decided to hang out up here and relax for the rest of the day. I almost ended up as a scratching post! How many days until Christmas??

Manual labor.

Now, my kid is cute so when she wrote me a super sweet letter and asked me to put the lights on the Christmas tree when I got back from visiting Santa, I happily obliged.

Then I realized that the damn tree is 8 ft tall and I am not even 1 ft tall, but I only work one month out of the year, so I put on my big boy undies and went to work.

I... am... tired.

Anybody got an airsick bag?

Maybe I should have told them that I get a little queazy on flights!! Or maybe if they hadn't hung me upside down all day long I wouldn't have such a dizzying headache before they stuffed me in this little plane to fly me through my kid's playroom. Well at least I am out of reach of the dog who, after spending a day watching her, seems to like to lick everything.

Maybe I'll take a nap up here.

Oh and excuse me... stewardess... Captain & Coke with a lime please.

Finally!

My family has had me since their first child's first Christmas in 2009, but waited until tonight, a whole 2 years later, to open me. Personally I thought they had forgotten about me, but tonight just before bed time, I was dusted off and released from my box. I was put to work almost immediately as they read my story to their almost 3 year old. She is a lover of books, so I have been named after one of her favorite characters from one of her books. She seems really nice and one of those kids that will actually listen when mommy and daddy say "no touching the Elf!" I've heard horror stories from my other Elf friends about some kids doing unspeakable things to them. However, while I may feel safe with my kid, I am not so sure about her parents. This is where I ended up for my first night on the job.

Wish me luck people. It could be a long month!
